Baked onion rings

This is a healthier variation of the famous onion rings you can find at any fast food restaurant. This dish maintains the delicious flavor of the original and is very simple to prepare.

Approximate Nutritional Content: 5 to 6 onion rings

  • Calories: 143 kcal.

  • Grams of fat: 2.9 gr. equivalent to half a fat serving

  • Grams of carbohydrates: 23.8 gr. equivalent to 1.5 servings of bread/vegetable

  • Grams of protein: 5.5 gr. equivalent to 1 serving of protein

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion

  • Cooking spray oil

  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs mixed with ground rice crackers

  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

  • 1 egg

  • 1 egg white

Preparation Method:

  • Peel the onion and cut into thick rings (about half a finger thickness), separate the rings. Place the rings in a deep bowl with cold water for 15 minutes.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray oil.

  • Mix in a plate the breadcrumbs, paprika, salt and pepper.

  • In another plate, beat the egg and egg white.

  • Remove the rings from the water and drain them well, place them on paper towels. Dip the rings well in the egg mixture, then in the breadcrumb mixture. Place them separately on the baking sheet.

  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until they look golden.

Enjoy your meal!

Note: they can be served with tomato sauce or a light mayonnaise-based dressing.
